What is this product?

Lip plumping products use irritants — capsaicin (chili pepper extract), niacin (vitamin B3 at high concentration), menthol, cinnamon oil, or bee venom — to cause localized vasodilation and inflammatory swelling that temporarily increases lip volume. The lip vermillion (red lip skin) is the thinnest epidermal tissue on the body with extremely high vascular density and no sebaceous glands, making it uniquely permeable to topical chemicals — studies show 10-20x higher absorption compared to forearm skin. This means lip products deliver far higher systemic doses per gram applied than other cosmetics. Capsaicin-based plumpers can cause contact urticaria and chemical burns in sensitive individuals, and repeated application to already-irritated tissue risks chronic inflammation and dermatitis. Injectable hyaluronic acid lip fillers (Juvederm, Restylane) carry additional risks: vascular occlusion causing tissue necrosis or blindness (rare but documented), granuloma formation, and infection.
